When winter gets the best of you, and you’re in desperate need of some tropical, warm weather, the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa is just what the doctor orders! For real.
The sister property to Marriott CasaMagna in Cancun, the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa offers a lot of the same – and I mean that in a totally amazing way – great restaurants, fabulous pool, an out of this world spa, and a plethora of activities for adults and kids at heart.
Room With A View
There are a couple of room options here, but you’re going to want the pool view. The pool view not only features a view of the pool (duh!), but also overlooks the deep blue Pacific water, and if you look really hard you’ll catch downtown Puerto Vallarta in the distance. It’s perfect. Really.
When it comes to the rooms here I have three words. TURN DOWN SERVICE.
I’m not kidding.
The bathroom is large, and they even leave space in the mini-fridge for you to place your own things.
I was overly impressed by the bellmen here. They are so friendly and accommodating – from check in to check out.
Night provided an equally spectacular view!
The grounds are well kept and gorgeous – perfect for a peaceful stroll, so much so that you don’t ever have to leave the property if you don’t want to.
I’ve never experienced such a drastic change in water! One day, it could be so rough you don’t want to go near it, and the next you can take a paddle board out. It’s crazy!
It’s also important to note that for those looking for “crystal clear” water, you won’t find that here. This is the pacific side, so it’s not going to be like Cancun or the Caribbean. That doesn’t mean it’s not pretty. It’s a deep blue that is simply gorgeous, and when the sun shines it literally sparkles.
The hotel is beachfront, but know that the beach is public, so there are vendors roaming about. What’s great about the Marriott is there’s also a deck full of chairs and beds in which guests can relax on (with ‘beachside’ service), so you’re not bothered. It’s not directly on the sand, but it’s close enough. Or, you can opt to hang out on the actual beach, there are chairs there as well.
Also, be sure to walk to the far side of the beach and out to the jetty for some unbelievable views of the resort!
Rent a cabana. Just do it. There’s shade, comfort, a view of the beach from the pool, and it’s overall wonderful. Ours was comped for the stay, but the cost is minimal. Poolside service is extremely attentive, and really, there’s nothing more important than that!
There’s fun activities poolside, like this parrot who stops by in the afternoon to say hello!
The Wow Factor
There’s a turtle sanctuary right at the hotel. The Marriott partners with local marine biologists to protect these little guys, and even allow guests to release them back into the wild. Unfortunately, the turtles that were still around this time of year weren’t ready for release while we were visiting, but I love that aside from releasing them back into the ocean, the Marriott allows guests to name them, complete with certificate!
You can’t go wrong with Champions. It’s a chain Marriott restaurant that serves burgers and fries. It’s good, but you know, it’s burgers and fries. We ate at Mikado’s twice, the first night was so-so and I’m so glad we went back for a second, because the second was fabulous and just like the Mikados we know and love. We also did Las Casita’s for dinner one night, and it is NOT to be missed. Make a reservation and they are more likely to seat you at one of their prime ocean-side tables.
I also can’t go without mentioning La Estancia. This is where their amazing breakfast buffet takes place daily, and while it does look amazing, we ended up ordering a la carte each day. I had pancakes the first day and it was so good I couldn’t help but order them again.
I’m really not a huge lobby bar person, but I LOVED it here! As we were returning from dinner one night we heard someone singing live and stopped to check it out. The bar was hopping and the music was GOOD. We ended up sitting on the comfortable couches overlooking the beautiful resort and grabbing a few drinks. Also note they serve light snacks here too!
I’ve been to spas all over the world and the facilities here make top five for sure. It’s simply gorgeous.
The spa attendants are wonderful, the steam showers are fabulous, the sauna is large, and the four (yes, FOUR) plunge pools are not to be missed.
Definitely show up early to your appointment and plan to spend time here when it’s over. If you book your treatment in advance you get 20% off (just visit their website and book via email). Word of warning though, check your bill prior to paying. My first day I got a Swedish massage with added on foot reflexology. It ended up being this months special (you guys, it was CHEAP!). They gave me this little bag of a couple of little sample size lotions and such, which said thank you on it. Come to find they charged for it (not much, but still). Check your bill.
The second day, I wanted to try something different so I got the lemon-basil scalp and body therapy. I thought it was a little weird how the receptionist asked if I wanted to change this to a traditional massage. I told her no, I wanted to try this. I think this is definitely not one of their more popular treatments, as the massage, while amazing, wasn’t exactly like the description. However, when I checked out, they added on an additional scalp massage cost, which I did not book or ask for. It ended up being taken off, but only because I brought it to their attention. Again, check your bill.
Nevertheless, my massages were great, and the facilities are not to be missed!
The hotel is a short walk from the marina, which is full of restaurants and shopping. On certain days of the week vendors flock street-side selling goods, and it’s a eccentric and lively atmosphere.
The Marriott Puerto Vallarta was the perfect escape for our winter blues! Thank you so much for a wonderful time!
