When winter gets the best of you, and you’re in desperate need of tropical, warm weather, the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa is just what the doctor orders! For real.
The sister property to Marriott CasaMagna in Cancun, the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa offers a lot of the same – great restaurants, a fabulous pool, an out of this world spa, and a plethora of activities for adults and kids at heart.
Room With A View
There are a couple of room options, and you’re going to want the pool view. It not only features a view of the pool (duh!), but also overlooks the deep blue Pacific water. If you look really hard you’ll even see downtown Puerto Vallarta in the distance. It’s perfect. Really.
When it comes to the rooms here I have three words. TURN DOWN SERVICE.
I’m not kidding.
The bathroom is large, and they even leave space in the mini-fridge for you to place your own things.
I was so overly impressed with the bellmen here. They are so friendly, helpful, and accommodating!
Night provided an equally spectacular view!
The grounds are well kept and gorgeous – perfect for a peaceful stroll, so much so that you don’t ever have to leave the property if you don’t want to.
I’ve never experienced such a drastic change in water. One day, it could be so rough you don’t want to go anywhere near it, and the next you can take a paddle board out. It’s crazy!
It’s also important to note that for those looking for “crystal clear” water, you won’t find it here. This is the pacific side, so it’s not going to be like Cancun or the Caribbean. That doesn’t mean it’s not pretty. It’s a gorgeous deep blue, and when the sun shines it literally sparkles.
The hotel is beachfront, but know that the beach is public, so there are vendors roaming about. What’s great about the Marriott is that there’s also a deck full of chairs and beds in which guests can relax on (with beachside service). It’s not directly on the sand, but it’s close enough. Or, you can opt to hang out on the actual beach. There are chairs there as well.
Be sure to walk to the far side of the beach and out to the jetty for some unbelievable views of the resort!
Rent a cabana. Just do it. There’s shade, comfort, a view of the beach from the pool, and it’s wonderful. Ours was comped for our entire stay, but the cost is minimal. Poolside service is extremely attentive. It’s PERFECT.
There are fun activities poolside, like this parrot who stops by in the afternoon to say hello!
The Wow Factor
There’s a turtle sanctuary here. How amazing!? The Marriott partners with local marine biologists to protect these little guys, and even allow guests to release them back into the wild. Unfortunately, the turtles that were around weren’t ready for release while we were visiting. I also love that aside from releasing them back into the ocean, the Marriott allows guests to name them, and even presents you with a certificate!
There are so many restaurants. You can’t go wrong with Champions. It’s a chain Marriott restaurant that serves burgers and fries. It’s good, but you know, it’s burgers and fries. We ate at Mikado’s twice, the first night was so-so, and I’m so glad we went back for a second, because it was fabulous and just like the Mikados we know and love. We also ate at Las Casita’s for dinner one night, and it is NOT to be missed. Make a reservation, and they are more likely to seat you at one of their prime ocean-side tables.
La Estancia is where their amazing breakfast buffet takes place daily, and while the buffet looks good, we ended up ordering a la carte each day. I had pancakes the first day, and it was so good I couldn’t help but order them again and again.
I’m not a huge lobby bar person, but I LOVED it here! As we were returning from dinner one night we heard someone singing, and stopped to check it out. The bar was hopping, and the music was so good. We ended up sitting on the comfortable couches overlooking the resort and grabbing a few drinks.
I’ve been to spas all over the world, and the facilities here make top five for sure. WOW.
The spa attendants are wonderful, the steam showers are fabulous, the sauna is large, and the four (yes, FOUR) plunge pools are not to be missed.
Definitely show up to your appointment early, and plan to spend time here when it’s over too. If you book your treatment in advance you get 20% off (just visit their website and book via email). Word of warning though, check your bill prior to paying. My first day I got a Swedish massage with an added on foot reflexology. It ended up being this months special (you guys, it was CHEAP!). They gave me this little bag of a couple of small sample size lotions and such, which said thank you on it. Come to find they charged for it (not much, but still). Check your bill.
The second day I wanted to try something different, so I got the lemon-basil scalp and body therapy. I thought it was a little weird how the receptionist asked if I wanted to change this to a traditional massage. I told her no, I wanted this. I think it is not one of their more popular treatments, as the massage, while good, wasn’t exactly like the description. When I checked out, they added on an additional scalp massage, which I did not book or ask for. It ended up being taken off, but only because I brought it to their attention. Again, check your bill.
The resort is a short walk from the marina, which is full of restaurants and shopping. On certain days of the week vendors flock street-side selling goods, and it’s an eccentric and lively atmosphere.
The Marriott Puerto Vallarta is the perfect escape for any winter blues. Thank you so much for a wonderful time!
