Josh wanted to see Mayan Ruins while in Mexico – and not just any – he wanted to see Chichen-Itza, one of the new 7 wonders of the world. No one else in the family wanted to go, so me, being the amazing wife that I am, accompanied him on this extremely long, hot, tiring day. Because honestly, I could care less about seeing this place. I mean, it’s not like it’s around the corner from Cancun. It’s a three hour drive each way. This was an all day thing, leaving at 7:25am, causing us to get up at 6am. On vacation. !!!!!
Since we traveled so far so see the ruins, I’ve dedicating a separate post to our day at Chichen-Itza (see here).
I seriously loved Cancun. I’ve always thought about it as a “party” destination, but there were 7 of us there, ranging from grandmother to college aged, and it was absolutely lovely. Maybe it’s the hotel, but it really was perfect for all.
Now that’s what I’m talking about – a nice, casual Cancun day, ordering lunch poolside!
If you don’t want to go for a fine dining every night, don’t worry, there are other options. Marriott’s Champion’s Restaurant offers burgers and salads (another great Marriott brand eatery!). The food is great, and the guys really enjoyed watching sports while we ate. There’s even pool tables for those who want to play a friendly game before or after their meal.
I really love the non all-inclusive option. You pay for what you eat and drink, and not for what you don’t, which is essentially what all inclusive is – you’re paying for things you’re not necessarily using. I’d much prefer GOOD food over something sub-par and overpriced.
At night, it was really fun to shop at the hotel’s stores and gift shops. I have a thing for chandeliers, which I think I got from my dad lol (see him posing below). The Marriott and JW Marriott have a ton of beautiful ones, which we were constantly admiring as we walked around.
And of course we can’t forget room service, especially for dessert. I’m a sucker for chocolate cake – it gets me every time!
Still more from Cancun to come!
