Located in the heart of New York City, the Central Park Zoo is certainly unique. While strolling through Central Park, visitors can actually pass through the zoo, and even check out the sea lions from a short distance without paying to go inside. Admission is worth it though.
The Central Park Zoo is small, and open year round. It’s a great half day thing to do. Strollers are allowed, but not in any of the indoor exhibits, like the Polar Circle or the Rainforest.
Top attractions include the sea lions, a snow leopard, the newer grizzly bear exhibit, and the polar circle. Other attractions are the temperate territory, where there are red pandas and snow monkeys. A stroll through the tropical rainforest is a must, and if you have kids, a visit to the Tisch Children’s Zoo (not included with general admission, a total experience ticket it required) is another must do.
General Admission tickets are $12, and can only be purchased in person. Total experience tickets can be purchased online, and include admission to the main zoo, children’s zoo, and 4-D theater.
