While in Bangkok we wanted to head outside of the city center. More so, we wanted to visit a floating market. They are plentiful, and super popular. The most well-known floating market is Damnoen Saduak floating market. We selected this famous destination as the one to see. We were not disappointed.
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is about an hour and a half from Bangkok. Definitely book a tour and couple your time here with something else that’s also outside of the city. Don’t make the trip just for this alone. Visitors flock here early morning to shop while sitting in longboats. There are everyday items to buy, from spices to vegetables. There’s food. There are also a ton of souvenirs, as this has become a very popular tourist attraction over the years. Unfortunately, this means a lot of the shops nowadays sell cheap touristy items. But look for the diamond in the rough. It’s still here. A few good spots remain, but you really have to search. Don’t get the elephant “carving” that’s being sold at ten different places. Find something authentic and unique. We managed to find a great shop where a local artist sat and hand painted ceramic tea cups.
Shopping in a boat is such a neat experience. We got such a kick out of the sticks that the local merchants use to grab your boat and pull it towards them as they attempt to sell you goods.
Definitely a cool place to explore, and a really neat experience!
