We just returned from 24 hours in Las Vegas. I’m not kidding, 24 hours. We left New York at 6am on Saturday morning, and returned Sunday afternoon.
We went to Las Vegas to attend Justin Timberlake’s charity concert, so if you don’t want to hear me GUSH about him, and all about how Justin Timberlake and I make amazing conversation, turn back now.
We flew Virgin Atlantic for the first time and absolutely loved it. We will most definitely be signing up for their rewards program and fly them more often.
It’s been a couple of years since we’ve taken the 5 and a half hour flight to Vegas, and we can’t believe how much we’ve missed this exciting city. With the desert below and the snow capped mountains above, this bright-light city is so unique! I love flying in and seeing nothing but flat land, and then, suddenly, the strip hits you. It’s fantastic!
Upon arrival, we had a driver waiting to take us to the Planet Hollywood Casino & Resort, which is not only where we stayed, but also the concert’s location.
Our room had a pretty nice view of the strip, and we would definitely stay here again.
I really loved the bathroom!
One of the cool things we got to do was meet Justin before the show!
We were told we couldn’t use personal cameras – they would take our picture for us and we can go online to “print it out” later. This was sort of disappointing, as back in the day, we always used to be able to bring our own cameras to meet and greets! My have times changed!
I was the first to go in, and JT stopped singing and looked at me. I mean, he looked. At me. Our eyes met, and he said, “welcome, welcome”… I melted. It was magical. Josh proceeded to get a kick out of this. We took our seats, and Justin continued to sound checked. Once finished, JT jumped off stage and got ready for pictures. We were told we could go up, and I was the first one as others joined, but in the beginning, it was just JT and I (oh yeah, and Josh was there too…), so we started talking. We had a real moment. *Bliss.* It always amazes me how much personality he has on stage, and how quiet and laid back he is in person. Soon the photographers were ready for the picture, so we huddled close… my arm around his waist, his arm around mine … snuggling…!!! Josh, at this point, was dying of laughter, and joined in the picture too. I was so proud of myself for my composure and semi-cool conversation. I was very collected. Sort of. No one else even talked to him! I’m so glad I seized the moment. We got an autograph and were handed a piece of paper telling us where to find our pictures online later in the day.
We still had a few hours to kill before the show, so we went back to our room to change and grab dinner. The view from our room was even better at night!
Pretty soon, it came time for the show. We were shocked by how crappy our seats ended up being. They weren’t far away, but they weren’t close either. This was a little surprising/disappointing since our tickets came from the actual show’s sponsor. Again, we couldn’t bring personal cameras, so these are cell phone pics.
Aside from our less-than-desirable seats, the show itself was great. Salt ‘N Pepa were a huge highlight, as was Elton John.
Justin introduced the acts and performed a little, which, of course, was AMAZING… he did his song with T-Pain, as well as rapped with Free Sol. He’s so talented that it’s no surprise he did a great job. He can do anything. For real.
Justin only performed part of a few of his songs acoustically, where as a lot of the other performers used full bands. Don’t get me wrong, I love when he sings acoustically, but I was also hoping for some full on JT performing too.
The best part was when he sort of chanted how he’s just hanging out right now, relaxing, and doing some movies. However, he emphasized how music is his passion and he’s coming back – soon, and it will be amazing. He promised. I’m waiting. It was great to hear this straight from his mouth vs. some other source.
The show ended a little after midnight Vegas time, so 3am NY time. We debated whether to go to the after party or gamble. In the end, we wanted to do more gambling while in Vegas. After parties are plentiful in NY. I know I will see JT many other times. Gambling, however, is not something we have locally.
We were also given tickets to Justin’s golf match for the next morning. Amazing, right? Unfortunately, we had a flight to catch, so we couldn’t go, which SUCKED!!! There was SERIOUS debating on canceling our flight. And by that I mean I was begging Josh NOT to go to work Monday so we could stay. Unfortunately, he had an important meeting he had to get back for.
Once we got home I HAD to see the picture they took of us with Justin. I tried to view it on my Blackberry in Vegas, but, well, Blackberry sucks and it wouldn’t work. The picture (see screen grab below) ended up being okay, not great (again, just wish we could have used our own camera!)…. and get this… it has the company that took the picture’s logo ALL over it. We have to BUY it, not “just print it” like they said we could. So annoying.
We can’t just buy the picture to print it logo-free either, we have to purchase an 8×10. Like, they will mail us a photo.
I emailed the company asking if I can purchase a digital copy. I mean, it’s amazing and all, but I’m not going to hang it in my living room. I just want the picture logo-free, digitally. We’ll see what they say. And maybe it’s because of the logo and it being a screen grab (lo-res file), but it kills me how the pictures aren’t even that clear. Still, better than nothing I suppose.
Anyway, I’m off to a private Taylor Swift concert tomorrow in Central Park, and while I’m sure it will be great, Taylor is no JT (it’s okay to say this, I’m sure she will agree). I’m on this Justin high (even more so than normal), and need to see him again asap – hurry up and tour again, please!!!
