What a fun-filled day checking out the new Fantasyland at Disney’s Magic Kingdom (and of course the rest of the park too!). But first, we checked out of Disney’s Boardwalk Resort. This was the first time we changed hotels in the middle of our stay, and it definitely won’t will be the last! It was great to be able to mix things up, and switching Disney hotels wasn’t the hassle we thought it was going to be. We let bell services know we were going to be checking into Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort that evening, and they took care of the rest.
Hello, Magic Kingdom!
Since we visited mid-January, Disney was still taking down their holiday decorations. In all our years coming in January, this was the very first time we saw the infamous crane in person!
While it is just as unpleasant looking as everyone claims, we know we’ll be back in the future to see the castle crane-free. Thus, while it was slightly disappointing (as the castle doesn’t look nearly as picture-perfect), it wasn’t a huge deal. We had far more important and exciting things on hand – like checking out the new Fantasyland! This was our first time visiting since Disney’s big Fantasyland expansion, and we were beyond eager to explore!
The new Fantasyland additions include the Beast’s castle (and the new Be Our Guest restaurant, which we dined at for dinner. I’ll dedicate a separate post to this), Gaston’s Tavern, Tales With Belle, the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (which has yet to open), Ariel’s Castle and the new Little Mermaid ride, the new Storybook Circus area, a ton of shopping, and so much more!
We spent forever admiring the new Fantsyland, and went a little shopping-crazy. I mean, there’s an entire store dedicated to Beauty and the Beast (my favorite!).
A major perk in staying on Disney property is being able to have the items guests purchase in the parks delivered to their hotel room. It’s a free (not to mention convenient) service. This was especially great for us, considering some of what we purchased was breakable (ie: a fabulous Beauty and the Beast China Set). It was so nice not having to lug shopping bags around the park all day!
A little tip for those staying off property: Disney only delivers to their onsite hotels, however, if you don’t want to lug your items around the park all day, and are staying offsite, Disney will deliver your items to the front of the park for you to pick up at the end of the day.
Today was one of those days the new Fastpass+ didn’t work out so well. We planned our rides so far in advance, that come day of, the times no longer worked for us. We wanted to change rides and times around, but everything was already booked solid. We ended up sticking with what we had, just so we didn’t have to wait on huge lines. The con to this was we were all over the place. We weren’t finished in Fantasyland, but had to head off to Tomorrowland for our Space Mountain Fastpass+. It was certainly a lot of not (well thought out) walking.
Since we were already in Tomorrowland for Space Mountain, we went on most of the rides there before heading back to Fantasyland.
Aside from all the fantastic new rides and attractions in Fantasyland, one of the things I loved most was the abundance of characters. There were so many out and about, which was fabulous!
There’s a lot to see a do here, including the classics, like It’s A Small World.
Although we still had to return to Fantasyland later in the day for another Fastpass+, we made our way to Frontierland for our Thunder Mountain Fastpass+. We still had some time, so we waited in line for the Haunted Mansion.
After Thunder Mountain, it was off to Adventureland for Pirates of the Caribbean and the Jungle Cruise!
Like I said above, we were all over the place with this crazy Fastpass+. Soon, we made our way back to Fantasyland for the new Little Mermaid ride.
Next, it was off to Storybook Circus. It’s a really cute area, and we enjoyed the bakery inside the big circus tent – the cake pops were amazing!
We took the train back to Main Street for shopping – one of our favorite things to do at the Magic Kingdom! I love all the stores!
By the time we finished shopping, it was dark out. We went on more of our favorite rides a second time, making our way back to Fantasyland for Peter Pan, and then dinner at the new Be Our Guest Restaurant.
Next up, our fantastic dining experience at the brand-new Be Our Guest restaurant!
