What a fun-filled day checking out the new Fantasyland at Disney’s Magic Kingdom (and of course the rest of the park too!).
First up, we checked out of Disney’s Boardwalk Resort. This was the first time we changed hotels in the middle of our stay (called a split stay), and it definitely won’t will be the last! It was great to be able to mix things up. Switching Disney hotels wasn’t the hassle we thought it was going to be. Not in the least. We let bell services know we were going to be checking into Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort that evening, and they took care of the rest while we set off to the Magic Kingdom! Easy.
Since it was mid-January, Disney was still taking down their holiday decorations. In all our years coming in January, this was the very first time we saw the infamous crane in person!
While it is just as unpleasant looking as everyone claims, we know we’ll be back in the future to see the castle crane-free. But for those who plan once in a lifetime trips here, I get how disappointing it is, and I’m sorry.
One thing I was SO EXCITED for today was checking out the brand new Fantasyland! This was our first time visiting since Disney’s big Fantasyland expansion, and we were beyond eager to explore!
New Fantasyland additions include the Beast’s castle (and the new Be Our Guest restaurant), Gaston’s Tavern, Tales With Belle, the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (which has yet to open), Ariel’s Castle and the new Little Mermaid ride, the Storybook Circus area, new stores, and more!
We spent forever admiring the new Fantsyland, and I may have also gone a little overboard shopping. I mean, there’s an entire store dedicated to Beauty and the Beast.
A major perk to staying onsite is being able to have items you purchase in the parks delivered to your hotel. It’s a free (and very convenient) service. This was especially great for us, considering some of what I purchased was breakable (like this fabulous Beauty and the Beast China Set). It was so nice not having to lug shopping bags around the park all day!
A little tip for those staying off property: Disney only delivers to their onsite hotels, however, if you don’t want to lug your items around the park all day, and are staying offsite, Disney will deliver your items to the front of the park for you to pick up at the end of the day.
Today was one of those days the new Fastpass+ didn’t work out so well. We planned our rides out so far in advance that day of, the times no longer worked for us. We wanted to change rides and times around, but everything was already booked. We ended up sticking with what we had, just so we didn’t have to wait on huge lines. But we were all over the place! We weren’t finished yet in Fantasyland, but had to head off to Tomorrowland for our Space Mountain Fastpass+. It was certainly a lot of (not well thought out) walking.
Since we were already in Tomorrowland for Space Mountain, we went on most of the rides there before heading back to Fantasyland.
Aside from all the fantastic new rides and attractions in Fantasyland, one of the things I loved most was the abundance of characters. There were so many out and about!
Of course we didn’t forget the classics, like It’s A Small World.
Although we still had to return to Fantasyland later in the day for another Fastpass+, we made our way to Frontierland next for our Thunder Mountain Fastpass+. We still had some time, so we waited in line for the Haunted Mansion.
After Thunder Mountain we set off to Adventureland for Pirates of the Caribbean and the Jungle Cruise!
Like I said above, we were all over the place with this crazy Fastpass+. Eventually we made our way back to Fantasyland for the new Little Mermaid ride.
Next, we went to check out the Storybook Circus area. It’s really cute. We really enjoyed the bakery inside the big circus tent – the cake pops are amazing!
Then we took the train back to Main Street for some shopping.
By the time we finished our shopping haul it was dark out. We went on some more of our favorite rides a second time, before making our way back to Fantasyland for Peter Pan.
Next up, our fantastic dining experience at the brand-new Be Our Guest restaurant!
