Orient Beach St. Martin, located on the French side, was hands down one of my favorite Caribbean beaches, but first, let’s take a quick look at St. Martin. St. Martin is divided. Literally. Half is owned by France (aka the French side), and the other half is owned by the Netherlands (aka the Dutch side). But what’s so cool is you can go from one side to the other freely (there are no border checks).
This large beach is broken down into smaller sections (we settled on Bikini Beach, but had fun walking around to the see the other areas too).
We have friends who visit Orient Beach yearly, which is where we got the recommendation from, and I can see why they chose this as their return to location. There’s so much to do that I can’t imagine a better beach on the island.
One of my favorite stories of theirs is when they unknowingly sat on the border between sections, so as people “crossed” they’d see them taking their clothes off. Then, when they’d see them come from the other direction, they’d suddenly see them putting their clothes back on – like they were sitting on some invisible line where people suddenly drop their clothes. They soon realized what was going on – that they were sitting on the border (literally) of the nude area.
Anyway, nudests or not (we’re on the French side of the island after all), Orient Beach is full of fun, locally owned restaurants, bars, shops, and activities. I mean, it was SUCH a fun place, and they literally have everything – jet skiing, para sailing, banana boating, a floating trampoline, etc. You will not run out of things to do!
Definitely a must visit, just be sure you watch where you sit if you want to keep your clothes on!
