Shopping In St Thomas
St. Thomas is one of those islands that’s easily accessible, especially from the US. For one, it’s part of the US, so A) you don’t need a passport to get there, and B) there’s not only fabulous cell service, but it doesn’t cost extra. I realize visiting here is a vacation for most, but it’s still important to stay connected (for me at least).
I last visited St. Thomas in 2007, so it’s been quite a few years. While there, I saw a lot of the island, did the whole Magen’s Bay thing, and literally drove all around in a rented Jeep. My favorite spot was Coki Beach, a truly stunning location, that believe it or not, won me over more than Magen’s Bay did.
The snorkeling at Coki is not to be missed.
There’s a huge shelf not far from the shore, so you have to be aware and careful, but it allows for unparalleled snorkeling. It’s the first time I ever saw a sea turtle in the wild, which was such an amazing thing to witness.
Anyway, this time around when I visited St. Thomas, I wanted to see what else the island has to offer, and in this post I’m going to focus on the shopping, because St. Thomas has a lot of it. Especially near the pier, which is great if you want to take in the pretty coastline views, or if you’re visiting via cruise. I spent a ton of time “yacht watching,” (I swear, it’s a thing).
When it comes to shopping in St. Thomas I have one word: Havensight. Oh, the jewelry! And if jewelry isn’t your thing (which, FYI, why not?), there are a ton of other stores to choose from – from clothing and sporting goods, to perfume and home decor, even a grocery store! There’s also a butterfly garden that offers bird shows, and I don’t know about you, but my local mall doesn’t have that!
Don’t want to dig deep in your pockets? Take a stroll around the pier. It’s really a beautiful thing to do that’s completely free. After all, people watching is extremely underrated if you ask me!
If you’ve done the whole St. Thomas thing before, why not head over to nearby island St. John? It’s a quick ferry ride, which I’ll get to in my next post!
