While in Lanai we hiked to Sweetheart Rock. Sweetheart Rock Lanai is a short walk from the Four Seasons Resort Lanai beach, and is not to be missed.
I recommend going EARLY. Maybe even catching the sunrise if you can get up that early. We went around 8am, and I wish we went even earlier. It was SO HOT and SO SUNNY! Make sure you bring a lot of sunscreen and water.
It’s a really easy walk from the resort (unless you’re pregnant). Not gonna lie, the heat really got to me! But, it was worth it. Sweetheart Rock was amazing.
The story of Sweetheart Rock is a hauntingly romantic legend. A warrior from Lanai captured a princess from Maui, and brought her back to his home island. He didn’t want anyone else to see her beauty, so he confined her to a cave near the ocean. One day, a horrible storm came out of nowhere. He rushed back to the cave, but it was too late. His beloved princess had already drowned. He recovered her body, and heartbrokenly climbed the rock and buried her in a tomb. He was so full of grief he then leapt off the rock. So yeah… slightly romantic, but mostly crazy.
To get to Sweetheart Rock, you walk all the way down the beach, and turn right. It starts out as a somewhat paved path. Be sure to down the stairs to check out the awesome tide pools!
After the tide pools, there is no longer a path to walk on. From there it’s jagged rocks that you have to navigate your way through. It takes some balancing, so swear sneakers.
This is Sweetheart Rock (pictured above). There are two lookout points. The first is closer. It’s not as high up, and an easier walk. The other is the cliff you see in the above photo that’s directly across from Sweetheart Rock. It’s a bit of a climb to get to the higher cliff, but it’s worth it.
Pictured below is the smaller lookout point:
These next batch of photos are on our way up to, and of the higher lookout point:
As you can see the higher the better. What a fantastic hike and view!
