I don’t know what we were thinking, wanting to tour Bangkok on our own. I mean, don’t get me wrong, we totally could have handled it. However, having a driver and a separate guide was a (luxurious) necessity I clearly overlooked during planning. Bangkok is CROWDED (a different kind of crowded than NYC), and HOT, and thanks to the tour we booked though the Four Seasons, we didn’t have to worry about a thing. Touring Bangkok was a pleasure and a breeze, especially since it was just the two of us (and our driver and guide)! The day was PERFECT and we saw SO MUCH.
After every stop, we stepped back into a FREEZING cold vehicle on our way to the next location. This alone made the tour worth every penny. Seriously. That blasting AC was the best thing ever. Add that to an endless supply of water and wash cloths to cool off with, and I was one happy girl.
Our guide also offered insight we would have otherwise been without AND he was hilarious. A win-win. Learning we were from New York, he immediately began to tell us how much he loves Lady Gaga. Then, he proceeded to quote lyrics. This guy seriously cracked us up!
Remember the amazing dinner we ate at Sirocco? Well, check out the Lebua State building during the day from a distance! I can’t believe we were all the way up there!
Here’s a little tip: Bring socks, and don’t wear expensive shoes! Just about every temple you visit will require visitors to remove their shoes. Hubs didn’t wear socks, which made for hot feet against the baking concrete!
By the end of the day I was exhausted, and I mean completely DONE. Josh wanted nothing more than to relax poolside, but I was looking for some pampering. Upon returning to the hotel, I called the spa and was so thankful they were able to fit me in for a treatment. On top of my actual 90 minute massage (which FYI, was SO CHEAP – gotta love that baht to dollar conversion rate), I was given an amazing pre-massage foot treatment. Talk about fabulous! My 90 minutes flew. I didn’t want it to end!
Up next, all the sightseeing highlights you don’t want to miss!
