We got around Hong Kong via the MTR, which was fabulous. It’s super easy to navigate, clean, and just all around wonderful. We purchased two airport express tickets, which allowed for two rides each on the airport express line (seriously NYC, your trains need to look like this!), and then unlimited MTR travel for three days (or 72 hours), whichever is greater. It was a great value and we utilized it well. I purchased the tickets before we left for a discounted price, and picked them up upon arrival at Hong Kong International. Hong Kong is a city you don’t mind taking public transportation in, and I actually preferred it over a taxi.
Anyway, Hong Kong completely shines at night. We thought it would be the perfect time to visit Victoria Peak, which is what we did on our very first night in this wonderful city.
Be sure to purchase your full ticket at the base before taking the tram up. It’s cheaper to do it here than at the top.
We paid extra to go to the very top, which is the only way to see anything without glass in your way. Unfortunately, it was SO cloudy that we didn’t get to fully appreciate the amazing view everyone raves about. I guess we’ll just have to return to Hong Kong one day!
